I don’t know about you, but even though some months have seemed to drag by in the new COVID world, summer still flew by!
Although so many things are closed or on hold, the Camano Center and 2nd Chance Thrift Shop have been busy providing services and shopping for our island residents. We are happy to let you know about two very exciting events coming this month!
Last month I explained the reason we have not opened up our Center and Shop. Within the Governor’s Phases, our Center clearly needs to stay closed for social activities and in-house lunch program until we have a better handle on the virus. Until Phase 4 it is just not safe for us to gather in close proximity for social activities. The Thrift Shop is a retail business and can be open with restrictions, so now that the weather is turning on us, we are making the transition from our Outdoor Thrift Sales, to opening our store on a limited basis. Our last Outdoor Sale will be on September 5th –Labor Day Weekend at the Camano Center. We will then focus on rearranging the store for safe social distancing and all of the precautions necessary. We will be open Fridays and Saturdays for shopping, starting September 18th and adding more days as we are able.
Your donations of items to the Thrift Shop are very important to us and we wish we could open up every day to take what you have been saving for us, but we have space limitations and need to be sure items are safe to put out for shoppers. We have been taking donations on an appointment basis, and will need to continue to do this for a while. You can call 360-629-6142 to get on our list. We have a wonderful group of volunteers that are working fast to process the items so we can continually take more, but we always need more help to do this! If you’d like to volunteer with us, we have many different jobs to offer you!
We want to thank you for being patient and supporting us by coming to the Outdoor Sales. We have learned a lot about how to operate in this new COVID-World. All of the volunteers that have come out to help us have been amazing! We have heard from so many people how they appreciate us following our mission and vision for the residents of this community. The health of our island is our reason for being here.
For 13 years the biggest event of the year, has been our Gala Auction at the end of September. This year, September 26th will be our 14th, and most creative one yet! We will be holding the auction virtually, which will be very different for us all. We have been closely watching and talking with other non-profits that have moved their fundraisers to a virtual model, and we’ve learned a lot. We will be enlisting the help of our auctioneer, Ian Lindsay, who has re-vamped his production to support virtual events. We will have our silent auction up on our website 1 week prior to the Live auction for everyone to participate free of charge. We have a wide variety of great auction items and are so thankful for the community in supporting our yearly fundraising efforts.
The Virtual Live Gala will be an interactive, live stream event similar to a Zoom meeting, but much more entertaining. Instructions on how to register are in this month’s newsletter and on our website. If you are not comfortable participating in an online event please do not hesitate to call us! We are happy to walk you through the steps to register and participate or suggest other ways you might take part in remote bidding or donating to our “Fund-A-Mission.” For more information about our VIRTUAL auction and how to register for this event click here.
Thank you to all of you that support our community and our mission by sharing your kind words of encouragement and your resources. As we continue to navigate through our current reality, we are so thankful to know you are behind us and have the same goals for our strong future here on Camano Island!
