Camano Helping Hands

Make a Difference: Help Neighbors Stay Safe at Home!

Camano Helping Hands Volunteers play a vital role in supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities, helping them remain safe in their homes for as long as possible. We connect volunteers with pre-screened community members who need extra assistance with everyday tasks through partnerships with Camano Cares (Community Assistance Referral & Education Services), Northwest Regional Council, The Volunteer Center of Whatcom County CHORE Program (also serving Island County), and other trusted organizations.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Volunteers can choose tasks that fit their interests, skills, and availability, including things like:

  • Light housekeeping (monthly cleaning, deep cleaning, or single-task projects like refrigerator clean-outs)
  • Taking out trash or recycling
  • Household laundry
  • Running errands and accompanying clients to personal care appointments
  • Light yard maintenance
  • Minor home repairs
  • Short-term pet care
  • Social visits for companionship
  • Assistance with non-financial paperwork
  • Helping with online tech and gadgets

Additional Information:

  • Background check required for all volunteers
  • Milage reimbursement

Your time and kindness can make a world of difference! Join our Camano Helping Hands Volunteers and help support our community--one task at a time.

Volunteering for helping hands has been very rewarding and gave me a great feeling of giving back to the senior Camano community. The tasks and hours worked are very flexible. My focus has been on landscaping and observing the smiles on the senior clients after completion is very gratifying. The clients appreciate our efforts and it restores some control, self pride, and organization back in their personal lives.
