Dementia Friends is a worldwide initiative that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, the program helps communities understand dementia and how it affects those living with it. Everyone can make a difference.
Dementia Friends Washington, led by the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, works with local organizations to bring this education to communities across the state. The Camano Center and NWRC are proud to co-lead outreach in Island County, focusing on Camano Island.
Dementia Friends Information Sessions are 60-minute sessions that teach participants:

After attending a session, you become a Dementia Friend. You’ll learn how to support people living with dementia and are invited to take a small action step, such as:
Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend. The goal is to create a community that is more understanding, patient, and supportive of people affected by dementia.
