Free Support for Island Residents Who Need a Helping Hand

Camano Helping Hands & the Volunteer Chore Program is a free program for Island Residents in need of a helping hand. It is a free service connecting volunteers with Camano residents who need a little extra help to live safely and independently at home.

Volunteers assist with non-medical everyday tasks such as:

  • Yard care
  • Grocery shopping and prescription pickups
  • Dog walking
  • Light housekeeping

Please note: Personal care, respite care, and moving assistance are not provided through this program.

This program is a partnership between the Camano Center and the Opportunity Council, and we’re proud to offer this valuable support to our community.

Who Can Benefit

This program is ideal for people who:

  • Are 60+ or living with a functional disability
  • Live independently (not in a care facility or supported housing)
  • Have low income or cannot afford paid services
  • Or have needs that are not met by family, friends, or other community programs

Important Details

  • All services are free, based on volunteer availability — there may be a wait time.
  • Volunteers choose the tasks they’re able and interested to help with.
  • Referrals are required — if you want to apply for the program for yourself, contact NWRC at the below contact number or email.
